PAC Pittwater Sailors - Non-Spinnaker Races on Pittwater.
The "Pittwater Sailors" races are organised by members of PAC (Pittwater Aquatic Club) under the auspices of BYRA (Bayview Yacht Racing Association).
One race is held each month (except January) usually on the afternoon of the first Sunday of the month.
The nominal start is at noon (1 pm in Daylight Saving) in two divisions - Blue and Yellow, based on performance rather than boat size - Blue division sail slightly longer courses.
Races are handicap start “pursuits”, with starting times staggered to reflect each yacht’s current handicap rating. In theory, all should finish around the same time. This can result in some exciting finishes, but avoids the stress of congested start-line manoeuvring. Here are the current Handicaps
Participating yachts are allocated an ID number, which is displayed to the Start Boat as the yachts individually start (and finish) the race.
The start & finish line is east of Scotland Island and races follow one of eight courses (North from there but within Pittwater) chosen regarding the wind direction on the day, so as to include all points of sailing.
Races are conducted in accordance with the current edition of International Racing Rules of Sailing. Protests are to be lodged on the appropriate form. Yachts shall comply with NSW Maritime Safety equipment regulations.
Race results are announced at the post-race dinner at the PAC clubhouse, and later published on the PAC web site, and via a monthly email newsletter.
Entries: Each yacht must complete and submit a current Application form.To comply with Australian Sailing requirements for a sanctioned event the owner/skipper of each boat shall be an Affiliate BYRA member and enter the race using this race entry form.
