PETER LOFT MARATHON

The Peter Loft Marathon is held annually to commemorate the untimely death of one of its most promising young sailors, Peter Loft, and to raise funds (via entry fees) for the Peter Loft Foundation, which is established to assist our youth members of BYRA to participate in National and International sailing events.

The event consists of a race to Lion Island, around Lion Island and back to the clubhouse at BYRA. The start is “Le Mans style” with the participants running to their boats in the water and then sailing north. BYRA welcomes many visitor’s boats every year, from humble single handers to powerful skiffs. Juniors have their own course which is completed by sailing around Scotland Island.

Peter Loft Support

The purpose of the Peter Loft foundation is to encourage and support young sailors (under 18 years) from BYRA to travel and compete in State, National and International regattas to further their experience and share their knowledge and inspire other young sailors.

In turn they help to foster and improve the level of competition at BYRA as well as contributing to our Learn to Sail program.

BYRA at the IQFoil Youth World Championships - Update One

BYRA is immensely proud to report that one of our youth sailors - Orlando Sadlik - is currently attending the iQFoil Youth & Junior World Championships in Cadiz, Spain.

Orlando has been an extremely active BYRA club member over the past few years - both on the water as a competitive sailor, and off the water as an instructor and volunteer.

We are so proud that he has made it to these worlds, in part supported by a grant from BYRA's Peter Loft Foundation - remembering a young sailor who lives on through the achievements of others.

While the time difference will likely be brutal, the races are being live-streamed from the 25th Oct [Spain time!], so check the event website for details closer to the time. Also, check out their Facebook page for more info!

If you are a BYRA club member, and plan to compete at a National or International championship in your class, you can apply for support from BYRA club via the Peter Loft Foundation. Please fill in & sign this form: Application Form and send it to submit sailing@byra.com.au

Peter Loft Marathon

The Peter Loft Marathon is held in April each year.
It is a unique Le Mans start from the beach at BYRA around Lion Island and back, with a beach sprint to the finish bell at the clubhouse.
We typically have 40-70 boats of all types including Dinghies, boards, foilers and catamarans.
